Whatever time of year you visit Thailand, Chiang Mai is an ideal destination to choose as a base to visit rural Thailand. Chiang Mai can be a holiday in itself - explore the town & go on some tours. Or , if you have time you can explore other areas, such as Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son.

Places to visit on your trip to Chiang Mai include: Doi Suthep temple, temples in the city (Wat Chiang Man, Wat Suan Dokh, Wat Jed Yod, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chedi Luang), the Night Bazaar, Ban Tawai handicraft village. Not to be missed are the elephants, either at one of the elephant camps or on a trek. Or try your hand on a mahout training course at the Lampang Elephant Conservation Centre. Proceeds go towards supporting their elephants and running their elephant hospital.

Hiking in the hills shouldn't be missed, if you have time the 3 day trek is the best option.

Then once you've worked up an appetite go for the Thai Cookery Course and learn how to make some of the famous Thai dishes.

From Bangkok you may take the plane from the Domestic Terminal of Don Muang Airport. There are now some new airlines serving the routes into Chiang Mai. If Thai Airways is full try Bangkok Airways, Air Asia, Nok Airlines. The train from Hualampong Station is a good option to see the countryside and there are approx. 6 trains per day. There are both private and government bus services. Government buses leave from the Northern Bus Terminal. Private tour buses leave from various locations and are usually booked at travel agencies. Make sure you ask the travel agent where you should board the bus.
The journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, takes approximately one hour by plane, 10-12 hours by train and 10 hours by bus.
It's only a 5 min. journey into Chiang Mai from the airport or train/bus station. See our location map to get to the guesthouse.

NB On your arrival in Chiang Mai taxi/tuk tuk drivers will often try to take you to certain guesthouses as they receive a commission there. We are one of the guesthouses who do not pay commissions to drivers. So please be aware they may tell you various stories such as we are full or are located a long way of town or will take you to our partners guesthouse, etc etc. If you have a booking obviously we won't be full , if you don't have a booking just call us to check (053 208271)

During the high season (Oct.-March), it is a good idea to call ahead and check the availability of rooms at your chosen guesthouse/hotel and book ahead.

If you come to Chiang Mai by plane you will arrive at Chiang Mai Airport. It only takes 5-10 minutes to reach the centre of the town. There are airport taxis that will take you to your hotel/guesthouse of choice, the price should be approx. 150 Baht.

If you come by train, you will arrive at the railway station on the east of town. It's only a 5 minute journey to the centre of town. There are tuk tuks and songtaews (red trucks) that will take you to your guesthouse/hotel for approx. 60-100Bt depending on destination.

If you come by bus, you will probably arrive at one of the two bus stations. The main bus station (Arcade Bus Station), if you come from Sukothai, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai or government bus from Bangkok. The Chang Puak Bus Station (white elephant), if you come from Thaton. There are tuk tuks and songtaews (red trucks) that will take you to your guesthouse/hotel for approx. 80 - 100Bt depending on destination.
